APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (ABA)
Behavior analysis is a natural science of behavior. Although ABA is often associated with the treatment of children diagnosed with autism, it is not a new procedure, nor is it exclusive to the treatment of autism. The principles and methods of behavior analysis have been applied effectively to develop a wide range of skills in children and adults with and without disabilities. The goal of ABA intervention is to enable an individual to function as independently and successfully as possible in a variety of environments.
ABA relies on the delivery of positive reinforcement and other strategies to build communication, play, social, academic, self-help, work and community living skills. Some ABA techniques involve instruction that is directed by adults in a highly structured fashion, while others make use of the child’s natural environment and follow his or her initiations. Regardless of the specific approach used, effective ABA always focuses on creating a high level of motivation for the learner to achieve the targeted outcomes. The goals of intervention as well as the specific types of instructions and reinforcers used are customized to the strengths and needs of the individual. Performance is measured by direct observation and data collection, and interventions are modified as a result of data analysis. ABA is also an effective tool in reducing problematic behaviors in children with special needs. By limiting or restricting reinforcement for undesired behaviors while simultaneously teaching desired replacement behaviors, ABA has been used to successfully improve and manage problematic behaviors.
KINDERPREP
Our KinderPrep classroom provides a wealth of opportunities to facilitate each child’s development. Our program focuses on L.I.F.E’s five core areas: Cognition, Socialization, Communication, Motor Skills and Self-Help skills. Our Curriculum is theme based and is complimented by the Web-ABLLS assessment. Whether we are “Down on the Farm” or blasting into outer space,” we will be exploring shapes, colors, numbers, letters and concepts. Our daily schedule includes free play, table activities, circle time, sensory time, open play, and group activities. We love to sing, dance and let special moments carry us away!
We strive to help each child reach their fullest potential through a caring, nurturing and structured environment. Within our structure we strive to meet each child’s individual needs which may include deep pressure, extra sensory input, or a simple walk around outside to explore a different environment.
Our team is dedicated to enriching the lives of each child that enters our room and helping them to achieve their highest potential.
